Bella Chidlow

My practice involves screenprints combining layered graphic elements with stylised linear drawings that depict representations of various notable female muses throughout Western art history. Their images have been appropriated to fit the life of a modern woman by stripping away the original contexts of the male gaze. My aim is  to open up a space for rendering depictions of women in their most authentic form. Through feminist lens my work explores how women might be depicted when they’re not being objectified but looked upto.
