Anthony Lee

I work across painting and installation, bringing together handmade materials and supports that suggest an environmental consciousness in response to the epoch of the Anthropocene. My paintings draw from alchemical illustration, nature and biomorphic abstraction, and are inspired by both expressionist and impressionist uses of colour. I find that colour and abstraction lend themselves to the exploration of spiritualism found within the history of abstract painting. Using paints I have made myself in strokes applied lavishly, I achieve a buttery gloss surface. The handmade appearance of my work and tactility of the paint mirror the ethos of environmentalism.
